President

Providing consulting services in product development processes, Far East sourcing and domestic operations.

  • Designed and implemented a cost improvement process for Crayola, Inc., Easton, PA that, to date, has delivered $1.5 million in yearly savings.

  • Redesigned Crayola, Inc. project management processes increasing on-time delivery by 50%.

  • Provided engineering and sourcing services for Asia production to the Handi-Craft Company, St. Louis, MO for its Dr. Brown product range including a major electronic baby bottle accessories line. The first item in the line will begin shipping out of Asia in the third quarter 2009.

  • Currently managing the re-launch of a major juvenile safety device for Automatic Specialties, Inc., including identifying a new Far East source that has reduced product costs by 70 percent, establishing a sales team to increase retail distribution, as well as providing industrial design and marketing support.

  • Designed, implemented and currently manage the product development process for SCS Toys, Ltd., Hong Kong.

  • Providing continued sourcing services to Holiday Hill Farms for its books and character-based accessories.

SDI Technologies, Rahway, NJ   2005 –2008

Vice President of Product Development 

Managed product development for the KIDdesigns toy line.

  • Directed the work of a domestic development staff of 20 people, developing 60 new products per year, generating annual sales revenues of up to $100 million.

  • Redesigned the product development process establishing a complexity-based product cycle template focusing on key milestones to improve turnover of the complete product line to the Asian manufacturers by 4 months.

  • Coordinated the efforts of product and packaging design, engineering and SDI’s Far East team, resulting in improved communications, reduced duplication of efforts and revitalized passion towards the process.

  • Integrated new product development processes and procedures into an existing Intranet-based information system allowing for easy team access to all essential product development data, reducing duplicate data entry.

Hasbro, Inc., Pawtucket, RI   1982 - 2004

Vice President of Engineering - 1987 to 2004

Led Hasbro Toy Product Development Engineering for multiple brands and categories.

  • Directed the work of a domestic engineering staff of 50, developing 225 new products per year, generating annual sales revenues of up to $430 million.

  • Developed a strong partnership with the Hasbro’s Far East team to assess vendor capabilities related to the design, engineering and manufacture of new products.

  • Coordinated with Marketing, R & D, Operations Planning, Quality Assurance, and the Hasbro Far East team, establishing acceptable product costs, product schedules and tooling costs.

  • Interfaced with the international design groups, optimizing global product development efforts, generating an increase in worldwide sales.

  • Worked with the Hasbro’s Operations Sourcing Board to supply global markets effectively with product at acceptable cost and in reduced delivery time.

  • Developed and implemented new working methods and processes for Hasbro Toy Product Development.

  • Drove the evolution of Hasbro Engineering from an internal design-based environment to a project management group utilizing China third party product development resources reducing U.S. engineering staff and time to market by 50% while doubling the number of SKUs produced.

  • Created a complexity-based product cycle template to identify and track key strategic metrics as indicators of performance management, establishing best practices and driving the product development process, while dramatically increasing on-time customer delivery percentages.

  • Designed, developed and managed new product development processes, procedures and web-based information systems. Established an Intranet-based open information culture providing immediate and easy access to all essential product development data.

  • Developed and implemented global product development procedures optimizing the engineering effort across all Hasbro international design sites.

Directed Hasbro Engineering Services including Reliability Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Chemistry Lab, Testing Lab, Model Shop and Print Room.

  • Developed, designed and organized staff, facilities and processes within engineering services to support sales growth of $460 million to $1,350 million for Hasbro, Inc.

  • Designed and implemented a scheduling and tracking technique that improved workflow and reduced overtime by 33%.

  • Improved the technology of model building, by breaking down the process into specialties and improving on the efficiencies of model duplication to achieve an annual budget savings in excess of $650,000.

  • Developed Test Methods and Procedures Manual for product safety and reliability requirements based upon voluntary toy industry standards.

  • Utilized CAD technology to streamline the packaging design cycle.
